Install / Enable RPM Fusion Repository on Fedora, RHEL & CentOS

RPM Fusion is a software repository that offers various free and non-free software’s which was not ship with the Fedora/RHEL/CentOS distribution. RPM Fusion provided as precompiled RPMs for all current Fedora versions (Latest 23) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 but unfortunately there is no packages for RHEL 7, i don’t know why.

Free : Open Source Software’s which was not ship with Fedora project due to other reasons.
Non-Free : Redistributable software that is not Open Source and “no commercial use”. source-code is
available for publicly to use.

Other Repository Installation

1) Install/Enable RPM Fusion Repo on Fedora

Run the below commands on your terminal to Install/Enable RPM Fusion Repositories to Fedora system.

[Install RPM Fusion FREE & NON-FREE Repo on Fedora 22 and later]
$ su -c 'dnf install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

[Install RPM Fusion FREE & NON-FREE Repo on Fedora 14 to Fedora 21]
$ su -c 'yum install --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

2) Install/Enable RPM Fusion Repo on RHEL/CentOS

For RHEL/CentOS system, we need to enable EPEL repository before proceeding the RPM Fusion repo installation.

[Install RPM Fusion FREE & NON-FREE Repo on RHEL 6/CentOS 6]
$ su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/el/updates/6/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-6-1.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/el/updates/6/i386/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-6-1.noarch.rpm'

[Install RPM Fusion FREE & NON-FREE Repo on RHEL 5/CentOS 5]
$ su -c 'rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/el/updates/5/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-5-1.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/el/updates/5/i386/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-5-1.noarch.rpm'

3) How to check whether RPM Fusion Repository is Enabled or not

Run the below command to verify and confirm the RPM Fusion Repository is installed in your system.

[email protected] [~]# yum repolist
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
 * base: centos.mirror.iweb.ca
 * epel: dl.fedoraproject.org

4) How to Check whether the package is available from RPM Fusion Repository

Use the below command to search whether the package is available from RPM Fusion repo.

[email protected] [~]# yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-* list vlc

5) How to install package from RPM Fusion Repository

Use the RPM Fusion command format like below to install package from RPM Fusion Repository. For example, i’m going to install mpv player using RPM Fusion Repository.

[email protected] [~]# yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-* install vlc

6) How to Check whether the package is installed from RPM Fusion Repository

Use the below command to check whether the package is installed from RPM Fusion repo.

[email protected] [~]# yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-* info vlc
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile

Installed Packages

7) How to list out the packages available from RPM Fusion Repository

Use the below command to list out, list of packages available from RPM Fusion repo.
