SeaMonkey 2.39 web browser release notes and installation

SeaMonkey is alternative web browser for Linux box. Its not only a web browser but also an all-in-one internet application suit, such as (Web-browser, advanced e-mail, newsgroup and feed client, IRC chat, and HTML editing made simple—all your Internet needs in one application). Monkey project proudly announced the release of new version of SeaMonkey 2.39 on November 8, 2015 with few Majorchanges. SeaMonkey web browser is based on Mozilla firefox.

1) Install SeaMonkey Web Browser on Linux

There is no official package available for SeaMonkey Web browser for all distributions, so we need to install/compile it from source.

Download SeaMonkey Web Browser archive file on /opt directory
# wget http://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.39/linux-i686/en-US/seamonkey-2.39.tar.bz2
# tar -jxvf seamonkey-2.39.tar.bz2
# cd seamonkey
# ln -s /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey /usr/bin/seamonkey
# seamonkey

2) SeaMonkey Web Browser installation Using PPA

ubuntuzilla PPA is available for Ubuntu based distribution for SeaMonkey Web browser.

# Adding SeaMonkey Web Browser PPA #
$ echo -e "deb http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list > /dev/null

# Add the package signing key #
$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com C1289A29

# Update repository index #
$ sudo apt-get update

# Install SeaMonkey Web Browser #
$ sudo apt-get install seamonkey-mozilla-build

# Launch SeaMonkey in command line #
$ seamonkey

It’s a bit older. So, better you can use source installation.

3) How to add SeaMonkey Web Browser in Menu

Use the below steps to add SeaMonkey Web Browser into Menu.

Menu >> Right click >> Configure >> open the menu editor >> New Item >> Enter the required details.

Hit Ok.

Find SeaMonkey in menu bar.
