Install ImageMagick 6.9.3-5 (Image Manipulation) on Linux

ImageMagick is a free and open-source software suite to create, edit, compose, or convert bitmap images. It can read and write wide range of image formats (over 200) including PNG, JPEG, JPEG-2000, GIF, TIFF, DPX, EXR, WebP, Postscript, PDF, and SVG. Use ImageMagick to resize, flip, mirror, rotate, distort, shear and transform images, adjust image colors, apply various special effects, or draw text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves. ImageMagick purly depends on command-line interface utilities for manipulating images and there is no GUI. The latest version of ImageMagick 6.9.3-5 released on February 16, 2016.

1) Install ImageMagick on CentOS/RHEL

We can install ImageMagick on CentOS 6 & 7 system from RPM file. It required ImageMagick-libs-6.9.3-5, so install it before proceeding.

# For CentOS/RHEL7, openSUSE & Fedora systems #
# [yum|dnf|zypper] install http://www.imagemagick.org/download/linux/CentOS/x86_64/ImageMagick-libs-6.9.3-5.x86_64.rpm
# [yum|dnf|zypper] install http://www.imagemagick.org/download/linux/CentOS/x86_64/ImageMagick-6.9.3-5.x86_64.rpm

# For CentOS 5 & 6 systems #
# [yum|dnf|zypper] install http://www.imagemagick.org/download/linux/CentOS/i386/ImageMagick-libs-6.9.3-5.i386.rpm
# [yum|dnf|zypper] install http://www.imagemagick.org/download/linux/CentOS/i386/ImageMagick-6.9.3-5.i386.rpm

2) Install ImageMagick on RPM System

We can install ImageMagick on RPM systems such as CentOS, Fedora, RHEL, SL & openSUSE from system Repository.

# Prerequesties #
# yum install gcc php-devel php-pear

# Install ImageMagick #
# yum install ImageMagick ImageMagick-devel

# Install ImageMagick PHP Extension #
# pecl install imagick
# echo "extension=imagick.so" > /etc/php.d/imagick.ini

# Restart Apache #
# service httpd restart
# systemctl restart httpd

3) Install ImageMagick on DEB System

We can install ImageMagick on DEB based systems such as Ubuntu, Mint & Debian from system Repository.

# Prerequesties #
$ sudo apt-get install php5 php5-common gcc

# Install ImageMagick #
$ sudo apt-get install imagemagick

# Install ImageMagick PHP Extension #
$ sudo apt-get install php5-imagick

# Restart Apache #
# service httpd restart
# systemctl restart httpd

4) Install ImageMagick from source

We can install ImageMagick from source to get latest version to all the Linux Distribution, make sure you should install Group Development tools before proceeding.

# cd /opt
# wget http://www.imagemagick.org/download/ImageMagick.tar.gz
# tar xvzf ImageMagick.tar.gz
# cd ImageMagick-6.9.3
# touch configure
# ./configure
# make
# make install
# ldconfig /usr/local/lib
# /usr/local/bin/convert logo: logo.gif
# make check

Error while run configure : Just touch configure and proceed further.
