Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca (RC) release notes

Linux Mint team proudly announced the new release of Linux Mint 17.1 RC the code name is Rebecca on November 15th, 2014. Linux Mint 17.1 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. Linux Mint 17.1 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Its release candidate (Testing purpose) So, we advise you to don’t upgrade your existing system to latest one until we will get final release because Linux Mint team also advised the same to wait until this month end for final release as well as bug fixing.

What’s New in Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca

  • pastebin command was introduced newly
  • search command now work by default current directory
  • apt commands now feature bash completion
  • Noto fonts is default font for linux mint
  • Linux Mint theme comes in Aqua, Blue, Brown, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Sand and Teal.
  • USB Image Writer now shows the percentage of completion in its title bar
  • Software manager give warning with more explicitly when you removing packages from system
  • More kernels available to choose
  • For skype issue install the package “ia32-libs”
  • Bluetooth issue install the package “blueman”
  • Solving freezes with some NVIDIA GeForce GPUs
  • Booting with non-PAE CPUs
  • HiDPI is detected automatically
  • MATE Edition comes with two window managers

  • turn off secureBoot because Linux Mint 17.1 places its boot files in /boot/efi/EFI/
  • If VLC player doesn’t recognize your DVD player Media->Open Disc, and specify ‘/dev/sr0’ as the disc device.
