How To Install Shadow Icon Theme In Linux?

Shadow icon theme was fully adopted with circle style icons.

The icons have a colourful circular base with long shadow.

Also, it looks like a flat style icon theme.

It carefully crafted, bright and clean icon-theme for Gnome Desktop.

As of version 5, it contains 1100 apps icon , 2327 icons in total and counting.

It changes the way of your desktop look. It looks beautiful with all kind of themes.

It supports all major Linux distributions and desktop environments such as Gnome, Cinnamon, xfce, etc,.

1) How To Install Moka Icon Theme Manually In Linux?

If your distribution doesn’t provide the Shadow icon theme, don’t worry we can easily install it manually with few steps.

To do so, visit the Shadow icon theme github page and clone the repository and follow the below procedure to install it.

$ cd /opt
$ sudo git clone https://github.com/rudrab/Shadow.git
$ sudo mv Shadow /usr/share/icons

2) How To Install Gnome Tweak Tool In Gnome Desktop?

The GNOME Tweak Tool is an extension of the GNOME shell that can be used to customize the Gnome desktop appearance.

Run the following command to install the Gnome tweak tool on Gnome desktop environment.

$ sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool

$ sudo dnf install gnome-tweak-tool

3) How To Enable/Activate The Shadow Icon Theme In Linux?

Once we have successfully installed the Shadow icon theme, it’s time to enable it.

To do so, follow the below procedure and enable it based on the desktop environment.

  • GNOME Desktop: Gnome Tweak Tool >> Appearance >> Choose the Icon from the drop-down box followed by “Icons” >> Finally close the App
  • Unity Desktop: Unity Tweak Tool >> Appearance >> Icon >> Choose the desired icon from the list >> Finally close the App
  • Cinnamon Desktop: Menu >> Appearances >> System Settings >> Theme >> Choose the desired icon from the drop-down box >> Finally close the System Settings
  • LXDE Desktop: Menu >> Appearances >> Customize Look and Feel >> Icon Theme >> Choose the desired icon from the list >> Apply >> Finally close
  • XFCE Desktop: Menu >> Settings >> Appearance >> Icons “Choose the desired icon from the list” >> Finally close

Alternatively you can set the Shadow icon theme by running the following command. By default it uses Sapphire color scheme.

$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme "Shadow"

If you would like to select other color scheme then run the following script that will help you to choose the available options.

$ sudo python3 /usr/share/icons/changecolor.py

CAREFULNESS ASSUMED!
i.e. You may face some weird icon if you choose 
MATE when you dont have MATE icon or MINT installed!
Choose your desktop environments
1: Gnome-3
2: Mate
3: Pantheon
4: Unity
5: KDE (Only those who are using special KDE branch)
Enter 1/2/3 etc to choose your de:1

You have chosen GNOME Desktop Environment
Now choose your favourite color scheme
1:  Emerald  
2:  Garnet   
3:   Ruby    
4: Sapphire  
5: Torquiose 
9:Square
Enter 1/2/3 etc to choose your color scheme:1

EMERALD scheme will be applied
places_emerald
./places_emerald/system-file-manager.svg
gnome
/usr/share/icons/Shadow/scalable/places_emerald

Do the above steps again and again to test all the color scheme.
