Released Official Arc Icon Theme for Linux Desktop’s

As a Linux Desktop user, You may know Arc Theme is one of the best flat theme with transparent elements for all kind of Linux Desktop which finally getting an official Icon Suit.

The Icon Theme not yet finished, at the moment this theme mainly includes icons for folders and mimetypes with flat design and doesn’t provide application icons yet.

By default this theme will look for the Moka icon theme to inherits the missing icons. Make sure you have to install Moka Icon theme to get full future set, If Moka is not installed it will use the Gnome icon theme as fallback.

1) How to install Arc Icon Theme on Linux

visit the developer github page and download the latest version of Arc Icon Theme and extract to /usr/share/icons directory.

$ cd /usr/share/icons
$ sudo https://github.com/horst3180/arc-icon-theme/archive/20160605.tar.gz
$ sudo tar -xzvf 20160605.tar.gz
$ mv Arc /usr/share/icon
$ sudo rm -Rf 20160605.tar.gz

Alternatively you can install Arc Pine Icon Theme by downloading appropriate repository based on your distro.

To change the application icons, edit Arc/index.theme and replace Moka with the name of your preferred icon theme.

Name=Arc
Inherits=Moka,Adwaita,gnome,hicolor
Comment=Arc Icon theme

2) How to install Arc Icon Theme on Ubuntu/Mint

Alternatively we can install Arc Icon Theme via PPA to Ubuntu 16.04, 15.10, 14.04 & Mint 18, 17.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/icons
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install arc-icons

  1. I cannot see any of the screenshots in either Chrome or Firefox! It happens that modern web browsers may refuse to display content from HTTP on a HTTPS website. If the connection is being protected by HTTPS, an attacker could still try an attack in the HTTP content, that is the reason for this new behaviour! The CSS content is not being downloaded either!
