Install FreeFileSync 7.8 on Linux

FreeFileSync is a free and open source software that helps you to synchronize files & folder. Lots of option is available which is unbeatable, see below for freefilesync features. It is available for Windows, Linux and OS X which was designed to save your time setting up and running backup jobs while having nice visual feedback along the way. The team proudly announced the latest version freefilesync 7.8 on January 01, 2016.

1) Install FreeFileSync in Linux

None of the major distribution included FreeFileSync package by default in repository. We can install it by downloading the tar file into our systems.

# For RPM based system #
$ sudo http://www.freefilesync.org/download/qkkxg2km5y2k99k/FreeFileSync_7.8_openSUSE_64-bit.tar.gz

# For DEB based system #
$ sudo wget http://www.freefilesync.org/download/8m1n781d1n8xhvu/FreeFileSync_7.8_Debian_8.2_64-bit.tar.gz

# Extract the archive file #
$ sudo tar -zxvf FreeFileSync_7.8_openSUSE_64-bit.tar.gz

# Navigate to Directory #
$ cd FreeFileSync

# Launch the app #
$ sudo ./FreeFileSync

2) Install FreeFileSync via gedeb package

Alternatively we can install FreeFileSync via gedeb package.

# Download gedeb Package #
$ wget http://archive.getdeb.net/install_deb/getdeb-repository_0.1-1~getdeb1_all.deb

# Install gedeb package #
$ sudo dpkg -i getdeb-repository_0.1-1~getdeb1_all.deb

# Update system repository #
$ sudo apt-get update

# Install FreeFileSync #
sudo apt-get install freefilesync

3) Install FreeFileSync via PPA

Alternatively we can install FreeFileSync via PPA.

# Add FreeFileSync PPA #
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:freefilesync/ffs

# Update system repository #
$ sudo apt-get update

# Install FreeFileSync #
sudo apt-get install freefilesync

  1. the third option, installing via ppa, doesn’t work on ubuntu mate 16.04.3

    Err:11 http://ppa.launchpad.net/freefilesync/ffs/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
    404 Not Found

    ..
