Blender 2.77 (3D Creation Suite) Released with lots of Improvement

Blender is a professional free cross-platform and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, modeling, rigging, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, interactive 3D applications, VFX experts, hobbyists, scientists, video editing and video games creation. Its interface uses OpenGL to provide a unmatched user experience and this will suite for individuals and small studios. Blender community proudly announced the new release of Blender 2.77 on March 19, 2016 with lots of improvements and 100s of fixes, and a lot more.

What’s new in Blender 2.77

  • Cycles: Better Subsurface Scattering, GPU support for Smoke/Fire and Point Density.
  • Grease pencil stroke sculpting and improved workflow.
  • OpenVDB caching for smoke/volumetric simulations.
  • Reworked library handling to manage missing and deleted datablocks.
  • Redesigned progress bar.
  • Edit mode boolean tool, better decimate modifier.
  • Improved extruding and weight painting tools for sculpting/painting.
  • Support for Windows XP and the SCons build system was removed.
  • 100s of bug fixes and other improvements

1) Blender installation in Ubuntu & Mint

We can easily install latest version of Blender by adding below PPA on Ubuntu & Mint.

[To Install Blender]
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thomas-schiex/blender
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install blender

[To Remove Blender]
$ sudo apt-get remove blender

2) Blender installation on Debian

By default Blender was included into Debian Repository, So we can directly install Blender on Debian by firing the below command.

$ sudo apt-get install blender

3) Blender installation on Linux from source

Alternatively we can install blender from source to reset of the the Linux distribution which wont have blender on their repository using from source code. Just follow the below steps to make it.

[Download blender archive file]
# wget http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/blender/release/Blender2.77/blender-2.77-linux-glibc211-x86_64.tar.bz2

[Extract Archive File]
# tar -xjvf blender-2.77-linux-glibc211-x86_64.tar.bz2

[Navigate to Blender Directory]
# cd blender-2.77-linux-glibc211-x86_64

[Set executable permission]
# chmod +x blender

[Run Blender]
# ./blender
