Inkscape 0.91 installation and release notes

Inkscape is a drawing and painting tool similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, Xara X & Photoshop. Inkscape is 100% opensource and available to everyone in the world. Inkscape is multi-platform available for Linux, Windows & Mac. Inkscape 0.91 has been released after a long time development, almost four and half years. The Inkscape community proudly announced the new release of Inkscape 0.91 on January 28, 2015 with more & more bug fixes and the previous release date was 23 August 2010 and version of Inkscape 0.48. Currently Inkscape binaries available for Linux – Ubuntu PPA and OpenSUSE only and they plan to release Debian & Redhat packages. Inkscape Download link.

1) Checking Inkscape package version

Use the below command to check available version of Inkscape package.

root@2daygeek [~]# apt-cache policy inkscape
inkscape:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.48.5-2ubuntu1
  Version table:
     0.48.5-2ubuntu1 0
        500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages

The output clearly shows my system have Inkscape 0.48.5 which was a bit older.

2) Adding Inkscape package PPAs

Use the below command to add latest Inkscape package PPAs.

# Adding PPA #
root@2daygeek [~]# sudo add-apt-repository ppa:inkscape.dev/stable

# Update repository list #
root@2daygeek [~]# sudo apt-get update

# Checking updated package version #
root@2daygeek [~]# apt-cache policy inkscape
inkscape:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.91.0+40~ubuntu14.10.1
  Version table:
     0.91.0+40~ubuntu14.10.1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/inkscape.dev/stable/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages
     0.48.5-2ubuntu1 0
        500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages

The output clearly shows my system have latest version of inkscape 0.91.

3) Install inkscape package

Use the below command to install latest Munin package on your system.

root@2daygeek [~]# sudo apt-get install inkscape

See the below screen shot, i’m using latest version of inkscape 0.91.
