How to install Budgie Desktop on Linux

If you bored with your current desktop environment and want to try something new? If yes, so many alternative desktop environments are available in Linux. You can decide which one you want to try, then install and enjoy the difference.

Budgie is the flagship desktop of Solus and is a Solus project. Designed with the modern user in mind, it focuses on simplicity and elegance.

Written from scratch with integration in mind, the Budgie desktop tightly integrates with the GNOME stack, employing underlying technologies to offer an alternative desktop experience. Budgie can emulate the look and feel of the GNOME 2 desktop.

Budgie Menu : The Budgie desktop environment offers an intuitive menu that enables quick access to your installed programs, offering both category and compact views.

Raven : Budgie ships with an applet, notification and customization center referred to as Raven, which enables you to access calendar information, sound volume, media player controls, system notifications and more.

Budgie settings : Budgie settings allows you to change appearance, Background, Desktop Icons, Fonts & Window Titles.

Install Budgie Desktop on Ubuntu

We can easily install Budgie Desktop on Ubuntu systems, such as Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10 & Linux Mint 17.1, 17.2, 17.3 & Linux Mint 18 by adding below PPA’s. Make a note, Ubuntu 16.10 users no need to add PPA because Budgie desktop will be pushed to Ubuntu official repository with Ubuntu 16.10 release.

For Ubuntu 14.04 & LinuxMint 17.1, 17.2 & 17.3

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:evolve-os/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install budgie-desktop

For Ubuntu 15.10, 16.04 & LinuxMint 18

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:budgie-remix/ppa
$ sudo apt update && sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-welcome

For Ubuntu 16.10

$ sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-core

Install Budgie Desktop on Fedora 22, 23 & 24

We can easily install Budgie Desktop on Fedora systems (Fedora 22, Fedora 23 & Fedora 24) by adding Budgie Desktop official repo.

For Fedora 24

$ sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:ikeydoherty:solus-project/Fedora_24/home:ikeydoherty:solus-project.repo
$ sudo dnf install budgie-desktop

For Fedora 23

$ sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:ikeydoherty:solus-project/Fedora_23/home:ikeydoherty:solus-project.repo
$ sudo dnf install budgie-desktop

For Fedora 22

$ sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:ikeydoherty:solus-project/Fedora_22/home:ikeydoherty:solus-project.repo
$ sudo dnf install budgie-desktop
