How to check all linux distribution version in one command

Many times everyone is getting confusion to identify the current OS version, when we are working more then one LINUX DISTRIBUTION. Use The below standard command to check all the LINUX DISTRIBUTION. I have checked few more distribution and pasted the results below.

Currently I’m working below four distributions, See the results.

Common Syntax

Common Syntax to check all the LINUX DISTRIBUTION

Syntax :# cat /etc/*-release

1) CENTOS SERVER

This is the Standard command to check the OS version, Why its shows three results because three different release files are there, like (centos-release, redhat-release & system-release)

[email protected] [~]# cat /etc/*-release
CentOS release 6.5 (Final)
CentOS release 6.5 (Final)
CentOS release 6.5 (Final)

2) UBUNTU DESKTOP

This is the Standard command to check the OS version, Why its shows two results because two different release files are there, like (lsb-release & os-release)

[email protected]:~$ cat /etc/*-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=14.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 14.04 LTS"
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="14.04, Trusty Tahr"
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 14.04 LTS"

3) ORACLE LINUX SERVER

This is the Standard command to check the OS version, Why its shows two results because two different release file is there, like (lsb-release, redhat-release & oracle-release)

[[email protected] putty]# cat /etc/*-release
LSB_VERSION=base-4.0-amd64:base-4.0-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch:graphics-4.0-amd64:graphics-4.0-noarch:printing-4.0-amd64:printing-4.0-noarch
