How To Check And List All Installed Packages In Linux?

As we know Package Managers are one of the top most contributor in Linux system. Most of us prefer command line interface for package management such as YUM, DNF, APT, PACMAN, and ZYPPER based on Linux distributions.

Package Manager allows us to perform actions such as installing new software packages, removing unnecessary software packages, updating the existing software packages, searching for specific software packages, and updating the system to latest available version, etc.

As a system administrator you should track list of installed packages on system which help you to save lots of time especially when you setup a new server. This list will help you to install necessary packages very quickly since we already have the list in handy.

There are multiple tools that are used to manage packages in Linux, from graphic or text-based interfaces to the low level tools used to install packages.

This is very small geek yet powerful for the system admin who’s very new to Linux and package management. In this tutorials we are going to cover all the major Linux distributions such as RHEL (RedHat), CentOS, Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE, and Arch Linux systems.

$ zypper se --installed-only | wc -l
$ pacman -Q | wc -l
